Volunteers needed for mpox vaccine trial

  • Published: 13th February 2024

The Vaccine and Testing team based at the NIHR Bristol Clinical Research Facility are looking for healthy volunteers to take part in the mPower trial. This clinical trial aims to evaluate the safety of, and immune response to, an investigational mpox vaccine.

How Does This Study Work?

Participation in the mPower trial will last around 13-14 months. This includes one screening visit, eight additional visits to the Bristol Clinical Research Facility and up to three safety follow-up calls.

Volunteers will have two injection visits about one month apart. They will receive an injection in the upper arm and will be chosen at random to have one of three doses of the investigational vaccine or a placebo. A placebo is designed to look like the investigational vaccine but will not contain active ingredients.

Compensation will be provided for trial-related time and travel.

Who Can Participate?

You may be able to participate in this study if:

  • You are between the ages of 18 and 49
  • You are in generally good health
  • You have NOT recently been exposed to mpox
  • You have NOT previously received an mpox/smallpox vaccination

Additional eligibility criteria apply.
