Facility

NIHR Bristol CRF provides dedicated purpose-built facilities and expertise for the delivery of early phase trials and experimental medicine research.

Patients and volunteers access the NIHR Bristol CRF through the security controlled main entrance on St Michael’s Hill via a reception and waiting room. The CRF has a Clinical Investigation suite which includes 5 equipped outpatient clinic rooms, sluice and prep areas. As the CRF is hosted by University Hospitals Bristol and Weston, we have access to the Electronic Records system for identification and tracking of research patients and registration of Healthy Volunteers.

Also available is a sleep studies suite, which comprises two overnight sleep physiology rooms with pipeline medical gases; en-suite bathrooms; adjustable and controlled room temperature. An adjacent observation and monitoring room includes neurophysiological and video monitoring equipment.

A team from University of Bristol maintain a Cardiorespiratory exercise and hypertension testing suite in the facility.

The UHBW clinical trials pharmacy and laboratory facilities operate alongside the main hospital facilities provide support for CRF Studies.

As a new facility, the NIHR Bristol CRF is focused on research in Vaccine Development & Testing and Oncology & Immunotherapy, but in time we plan to develop capacity to support early phase research across the trust in other therapeutic areas, for example in paediatric medicine.

In addition, we have a number of active experimental medicine studies in other fields, including pain management and cardiovascular physiology.

Costs for using the facility will depend on a number of factors. If you would like to enquire about running your study here in the NIHR Bristol CRF, please get in touch to discuss.
